The breakthrough wasn’t AI. AI simply made one great engineer dramatically more productive. The breakthrough was realizing he no longer needed to accept a lack of visibility just to get work done.

For years, companies optimized for the lowest cost per developer. AI is changing the economics enough that the trade underneath that optimization is coming apart: companies may no longer need to give up visibility and ownership to get affordable development.

I think the next decade will be defined by something else entirely.
